Zany Zoo privacy policy
Last updated 30 October 2026
The short version: Zany Zoo collects nothing. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Nothing a child makes or types is sent to us or anyone else. The app's only connection to the internet is Apple's App Store, used when a grown-up buys or restores the unlock.
Who we are
Zany Zoo is made by Joshua Smith. Questions about this policy go to zanyzoo@rationalpi.com.
What stays on your device
- Creatures and their names. A child picks the parts of an animal and can type a name for it. The creature and its name stay on the device. iOS keeps the current creature so it's still there when you switch back to the app, and discards it when the app is closed.
- Grown-up settings. The switches for saving, sounds and music are stored on the device so they stay the way you set them.
- Sound files. The app makes its own sounds and keeps them in the device's cache so they start quickly. They contain nothing about you.
None of this is sent anywhere. Deleting the app removes all of it.
Saving pictures to Photos
When a child taps Save, the app adds a picture of the creature, with its name, to the device's photo library. iOS first asks for permission toadd photos only, so the app can never see or read anything already in your library. A grown-up can turn saving off in the parent area.
Once a picture is in Photos, it's managed by Apple's Photos app and your own settings, such as iCloud Photos. Delete it there whenever you like.
Purchases
Zany Zoo is free with 10 animals. A one-time purchase unlocks everything. The purchase, Restore Purchases and promo codes all use Apple's own App Store screens, and all of them sit behind the parent gate.
Apple handles the payment. We never see your name, email address, Apple ID or payment details. The app only asks Apple whether this Apple ID owns the unlock. Apple's own privacy policy covers what Apple does with purchase information.
The parent gate and links
The purchase, promo codes, Restore Purchases and the settings are behind a grown-up question. The app has no links to websites or other apps. The only thing that leaves the app is an Open Settings button, shown to a grown-up in the parent area when iOS is blocking saving, which opens the device's Settings app.
What Apple may share with us
Apple gives app makers total downloads and sales. If you've chosen in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may also give us crash reports and usage statistics that don't identify you. That information is collected by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, not by Zany Zoo.
Children's privacy
Zany Zoo is made for young children. We don't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13, so there's nothing for a parent to review or ask us to delete. The app contains no third-party code for analytics, advertising or anything else. If that ever changed, we would update this policy before the change shipped and, where the law requires, get a parent's consent first.
If you email us
If you write to zanyzoo@rationalpi.com, we use your email address and message only to reply. We don't add you to any list or share your message.
Your choices
You can turn off saving, sounds and music in the parent area, or turn off Photos access in the device's Settings. Because we hold no personal information about you, there's nothing for us to sell, share, access or delete. You're welcome to ask us anything at zanyzoo@rationalpi.com.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here and update the date above.
This policy covers the Zany Zoo app for iPhone and iPad.
